Dear Parents:
Happy New Year and welcome back to Woods Creek!
I am pleased to report that the Executive Committee of the WCM Board met recently and decided to move forward with a playground renovation project, ideally to be completed by Summer 2015! We have a small committee of parents, teachers and board members working on this project. If you have any ideas about items to include in our playground space, please let me know and I will be happy to share your suggestions with the committee.
This semester, there are four extra care days that we are offering school to our WCM families (enrolled in our daytime or after school care program) at no additional cost to parents: January 19th, January 20th, February 16th and March 27th. January 14th is the deadline for registration for our extended school days on January 19th and 20th. Sarah has sent you a confirmation email this week if your child is already enrolled in one of these days. If you intend to send your child to school on any of these days and you have not received a confirmation email, please register with Sarah Iddings (her email is sarah@woodscreekmontessori.org) and let her know what time you intend to pick up your child that day (12:00, 3:00 or 5:00).
I am delighted to announce that Samee Taylor will be the Director of our 2015 Summer Camp Program. Summer camp dates will be from Monday, June 15th to Friday, August 14th. Our summer camp theme will be a Passport to Discovery. We will send you information about camp registration in March.
On Thursday, January 29th, Corbin and Amanda will lead a potty training workshop for parents. The program will start at 6 pm in the toddler classroom and focus on both the signs of readiness and the methods we use at WCM to potty train.
Finally, winter days have been particularly cold this week, but we try to spend time outside, even if only briefly, so please remember to send your child to school with lots of warm clothes, hats and gloves. We follow the Lexington City School system for closings due to inclement weather.
Volunteer Projects
All parents are asked to contribute 6 hours of volunteer time per semester – hours not completed are billed at a rate of $25.0 per hour at the close of the semester. Remember, many things count for volunteer hours – making soup for the teachers, doing an extra load of laundry for your class, coming into the class to share a talent, helping your teacher with a classroom project, etc.
If you are looking for an at home project, classroom teachers are always in need of paper towel cutting which children use to wash their hands.
Over winter break, we painted about half of the bookshelves in Kitty’s classroom, but we’d love to paint the rest. If anyone has about two hours free one Saturday, let me know and I’d be happy to help paint the rest of the bookshelves.
